A Prayer for the Church

My prayer this morning:

Father, you have given your church the greatest ministry of all – the ministry of reconciliation. Grant us the desire and the wisdom to first reconcile your children to you and secondly reconcile the world to you.

Let the church arise and be an example of unity. Let us be a place that welcomes the hurting, the lonely, the sexually confused, the adulterer, the murderer, the drug dealer, reconciling them all to you. Let us truly be a house for all nations. Let everyone, no matter their ethnicity find our churches inviting, loving, accepting.

Let us be your hands and feet. Let us be a people who take the kingdom into the world – preaching the good news to the poor, healing the broken-hearted, setting the captives free, feeding the hungry, healing the sick and bringing hope to the hopeless.

Father, let us return to preaching the true gospel – God is good, grace abounds, mercy triumphs over justice, forgiveness was purchased at the cross, and nothing, not even your most vilest sin, can separate you from the love of God.

Father, heal us a church and in turn Father, let the church lead in healing our nation. Unite us as a church so that we can be an example of unity in the nation. Let the church be a leader in making America godly – not through enacting laws but by changing the heart’s of the people.

Amen

“And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’ ””
