Do Over

Do you ever fantasize for a do over in life? Perhaps raise your kids differently, take a different job, said no when you said yes? Have you ever thought, “If I could go back, I would do it differently?” I have lots of those moments. I guess they are called regrets.

While there are no do overs in life, we have something better. As Christians we have the promise of restoration. Why is this better? Because God not only restores the mistakes I have made, He can restore the mistakes my parents made as they affect me.

Were you abused as a child? Were you hurt by a spouse? Have you been rejected by someone you love? Have you made mistakes that have caused you grief and disappointment? Is your heart heavy?

Allow God to restore the ruins. He is willing and so very able. Allow Him to comfort you in your mourning, give you flowers for your sorrow, olive oil for your tears, and praise for your broken heart.

He wants to make you into a tall “Oak tree of righteousness”, where others who have gone through similar things can come and find peace in your shade. He wants rebuild the legacy of your family so that generations to come will be blessed by the restoration you have received. He wants to give you back double for all the shame and disgrace you have received.

We don’t need a do over. We need to receive the restoration of the Lord!

“This is the year when the Lord God will show kindness to us and punish our enemies. The Lord has sent me to comfort those who mourn, especially in Jerusalem. He sent me to give them flowers in place of their sorrow, olive oil in place of tears, and joyous praise in place of broken hearts. They will be called “Trees of Justice,” planted by the Lord to honor his name. Then they will rebuild cities that have been in ruins for many generations.”
