Fighting for Family

What an awesome problem to have: Too prosperous.

Yet, that is the problem Abram and his nephew, Lot faced. So they decided to separate. Abram graciously gave Lot his choice. Lot chose that which pleased the eye. The land appeared well watered but the land had one small problem. It’s inhabitants sinned immensely.

As I read this story this morning, I thought about this generation, our children. So many choices they have to make. Our prosperity has given them choices to go off to college, live in foreign countries, move far away from. But unfortunately no matter how well we loved them, taught them, raised them, sometimes they are taken captive by the enemy.

The land Lot chose, eventually caused him to be taken hostage by four nations.

When Abram heard what happened to His nephew, he did not pronounce judgment on his nephew. No, Abram took 318 men and confronted four nations to get back his family.

In the natural, Abram was the underdog in this fight. How could one man’s household defeat four nations of trained soldiers. These four nations had just defeated five nations. But Abram had a secret weapon – God.

Friends, if your relative has been taken captive by addictions, the lies of this world, the occult, or sickness, don’t give up! It may seem as if the enemy is too great. It may seem as if the battle is unwinable. But you have secret weapons.

You have a host of angels fighting for your loved one. You have the chain-breaking, deliverance bringing power of the Holy Spirit. You have a serial Savior knocking on the door of their hearts.

I pray that God will renew hope as you contend for your son or daughter, your nephew or niece. Let’s go into the darkness on our knees and rescue our loved ones from the enemies’ grasp. Let the love of God flow through us so powerfully until it leads our children to repentance.

Let’s go get our children.

“When Abram heard that his relative had been taken prisoner, he assembled his 318 trained men, born in his household, and they went in pursuit as far as Dan.

He brought back all the goods and also his relative Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the other people.”
