Is it Time for A Divorce?

Eighteen years is a long time! 18 years of oppression. 18 years of suffering. 18 years of thinking God is angry with you. After 18 years, one begins to identify with their affliction. But then suddenly….Jesus appears. And just like that, pain is gone, oppression is gone, hopelessness is gone. Healing has come. Freedom has been granted. A new identity issued.

We are all familiar with the story of the woman who was bent over. Allow me to share my thoughts.

1. Unlike the woman with an issue of blood, this woman did not seek healing. Jesus saw her and called her out. Sometimes we can be afflicted with a circumstance for so long, we can begin to accept it as normal. Mental Health officials even tell us acceptance is the final stage in grief. But for the believer we should never accept anything that is contrary to the Kingdom of God (sickness, lack, division, hatred).

Perhaps, this is why Jesus used the terminology he used. “You are loosed”. That word means divorced. She had to divorce the belief that this was her fate. She had to divorce the thought that God was punishing her. She had to divorce a lie so she could marry truth.

2. When someone objected because it was a Sabbath, Jesus went covenant on him. “This is a daughter!” Don’t you understand who she is? Jesus is saying the same to you. You are a son. You are a daughter. You have a covenant, an inheritance. And that inheritance includes health, prosperity, acceptance, every spiritual blessing, a hotline to God, contentment, joy, hope, a retirement plan and so much more. Jesus said this woman should not settle for anything less and neither should we.

3. Jesus made it very clear this woman was oppressed by Satan. God is not the author of your pain, your heartache, your struggles. He is not angry with. He is not teaching you a lesson by sending you a disease, infertility, lack. He gives us life abundantly. He is our healer, our provider, our hope. He gives us life abundantly.

Do you have a situation you have been in for awhile? Divorce the lie this is just who you are. It’s not. Marry the the truth that you are a son; you are a daughter. It’s never too late for a suddenly. As a matter of fact, today is a good day for a suddenly.

“Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭13:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
