Is Prosperity from God?

Prosperity began in the Garden.

I’m pondering and reevaluating my position on prosperity. So many Christians I love and respect have varying views. As I have said before, I grew up on Creflo Dollar and Kenneth Copeland. But I want to have God’s heart toward a matter so I have read different articles explaining why the prosperity Gospel is heretical.

So after asking God for His heart on the matter this is where I land:

1. Any biblical truth taken out of context of God’s original design can become heretical. Prosperity taken out of context is heretical. Most articles I read against prosperity cites teaching that is extreme.

2. We struggle with the notion of God’s prosperity because poverty is so prevalent in the world. However, immorality is also prevalent in the world but we still preach that it’s God’s desire for us to be holy. We don’t question if it’s God’s will to save just because many are not saved.

3. The Garden of Eden is God’s original intent for His people and God’s first action toward them was to “Bless them”. Bless mans to cause to prosper. I believe that’s God’s original intent for His people. In the Garden there was no lack. They had everything they needed to prosper, to live. God even gave them gold and onyx just for His good pleasure.

Brothers and sisters, let us not believe the lies of the enemy that God resources are limited. He is a good Father. He wants to bless His children with every good and perfect gift. This does not mean that each of us will live in a mansion and drive a fancy car. It simply means God wants to bless you so that we can bless others in Jesus’ name. It means that we should be generous as our Father is generous. It means we should not worry about having resources to do what God has called us to do. It means God has given you everything you need to do better.

Friends, this is what I have learned in thirty years of walking with God. As I have pursued God, prosperity (doing better) has followed. As I give generously, God has been extremely generous to me. When I stop worrying and fretting about provision, and simply trust God, I have seen God provide miraculously for my needs. So friends, seek the Father, give, trust.

Truly, God is good. Truly God is good to you!

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:28, 31 NIV)
