They had wandered in the desert for forty years. Forty. They had seen an entire generation die without entering into their promised land. But now the time had come. This was there season. Now was their time. Breakthrough was eminent.
Moses gathered the nation together for a pep talk. “You are about to do the impossible. Yes, this nation is a fortified city with walls reaching to the sky. The people are stronger than you and have a reputation as a conquering nation. But rest assured, the living God goes before you. He is a devouring fire. Your God will destroy them and subdue them. So that you can drive them out and annihilate them.”
I believe this is a prophetic word this morning for me and you. Today, marks the day of a new season. A season you have been anticipating for a long time. I believe God is saying now is the time but do not be discouraged by what you see or what you hear with your natural eyes and ears. What lies ahead seems daunting, impossible even. But the Lord your God is going before you like a devouring fire. He is opening doors, granting you favor, and given you promotion beyond your education, beyond your pay grade. But you will have to walk in it. You have to take the risk and step out to defeat the giants in the land.
Do not be afraid. It’s not about you or because of your righteousness. It is about the Kingdom. God is positioning us to proclaim the kingdom and demonstrate His kingdom with power. It’s about saints being set free to walk in their identities, it’s about pushing back the darkness so that people can clearly see His beauty, it’s about emptying hell and saving lost souls. Is about Jesus.
This morning, I have a great anticipation about what God is going to do. If I consider things in the natural, I could easily get discouraged. But in the spiritual realm, I see God going before me. I see Him as a devouring fire turning all of my obstacles into ash so that as I encounter them, a simple blow will scatter those obstacles. This is my season! This is my time! I’m entering in! Will you join me?
“Hear, Israel: You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky. The people are strong and tall—Anakites! You know about them and have heard it said: “Who can stand up against the Anakites?” But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you.”
