Press from a Place of Rest

Today is a new day! The mistakes I made yesterday are met with new mercies this morning. The tears cried yesterday are confronted with joy this morning. Today is a new day full of possibilities and opportunities in Christ. Today, I press to have a greater revelation of the Father’s love so that I can love others more deeply. Today, I will receive His forgiveness so I can forgive freely. Today, I recall His goodness so that I can fervently share the gospel. Today I press.

But this is not a work of my flesh that I should boast. It is not a striving that causes exhaustion. It’s a press that begins and ends with a rest. I rest in knowing that He who began a good work in me is faithful to complete it. I rest in knowing I am co-laboring with Christ. I rest in knowing, I don’t have to be perfect, just willing.

So today I press. I don’t look at the mistakes I made yesterday, they are forgiven. I don’t boast about yesterday’s victories, they belong to Him. But I run well, keeping my eyes on the prize, Jesus. I run at the pace set for me without trying to keep up with the person on the left or right.

Jesus, the Angels, and a great cloud of witnesses are cheering you on this morning. They are chanting your name encouraging you to run your race well. So let’s do this thing this morning. Let’s press from a place of rest!

“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
