The Call

I grew up believing God was angry and smite happy. While my old thought patterns are being renewed in the light of grace, some times as I’m reading God’s word, I can still interpret His word through my old filters.

In Hebrews 4:12, God gives us amazing insight into the power and beauty of His Word:

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In the past, I understood this to mean that as I read the word, it will show me all the things wrong with me. My selfishness, my arrogance, my sin will be revealed as I read God’s word.

But one morning as I was reading His word, I noticed God was revealing my desires and innermost thoughts to serve Him. He was revealing the call on my life. He was showing my desire to preach and teach on grace, my desire to set captives free, my desire to heal the sick, hear His voice and prophesy good things to the children He loves. He was not exposing my sin, He was highlighting my destiny.

Yes, God’s God word corrects and instructs but it also equips us for good works. (II Timothy 3:16)

If you want to know what God has called you to do, read His word. What does God highlight to you as you delve into His word? What stories excite you as you read the bible? What do you see in the word, that you long to see here on earth? That is the calling on your life. This is your God-given destiny. Walk in it!
