It’s 2:49 am and BAM I’m awake. I tossed and turned for a bit, but couldn’t go back to sleep. I started thinking about someone who I admire and then suddenly realized I was jealous of her. Now, this was not the enemy because I didn’t feel guilt or condemnation just puzzled. I wanted to discern the feeling behind this jealousy. So I asked the Holy Spirit.
Now as most of you know, if you have read my book, I have struggled with a spirit of rejection in my past. I’ve been set free for about four years now. So I was surprised when the Holy Spirit revealed that the cause of this jealousy was “rejection”.
“But I’ve been set free from a spirit of rejection,” I protested. “It’s not a spirit of reaction but a habit of rejection. You have been hurt by someone recently and your old thought patterns are creeping in again,” the Holy Spirit informed me.
The Holy Spirit’s prescription? “Renew your mind. Meditate on Ephesians 1:6.” So I began to read that passage in several translations. And then I fell back to sleep and slept peacefully.
I love the Holy Spirit’s and my little counseling sessions, although I do wish we could do a different time. He never convicts me but always convinces me of who I am. He sees me holding onto things like jealousy, unforgiveness, anger that are weighing me down and He holds out his hand and allows me to let go of it so that I can soar.
The Holy Spirit says to me, “You don’t have to be jealous, baby girl, God’s resources are more than enough. Why do you care about man’s rejection, you have been accepted in the Beloved. You can forgive because you were freely forgiven. You can love because you are fiercely, extravagantly, completely loved by the Father.”
What emotion is holding you down this morning? Fear, anxiousness, regret, jealousy, loneliness, unforgiveness? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the root and then give you a prescription. He is the best counselor because He knows you better than yourself. He was there at your creation. Give Him your anger, your disappointment, your jealousy, and soar baby girl/baby boy, soar!
“But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you. He won’t speak on his own, but only what he hears from the Father, and he will reveal prophetically to you what is to come. He will glorify me on the earth, for he will receive from me what is mine and reveal it to you. Everything that belongs to the Father belongs to me—that’s why I say that the Divine Encourager will receive what is mine and reveal it to you.”
