Strengthen

Yesterday, literally as I was walking out the door to go to church, I got some news. This news potentially could have a huge financial impact on our family. I was worried but I was also angry. We had been very gracious to the person delivering the news and now I felt as if they were hanging us out to dry. I drove to church in a fog of worry, anger, and disappointment.

King David had a morning like this. He and his men returned one day to find their camp plundered and their wives and children taken captive. And if dealing with that devastation were not enough, David’s own men blamed him and talked of stoning him.

What do you do when life delivers you a devastating blow? What do you do when circumstances knock you down? How do you handle it when you have extended grace but are still betrayed?

You do what David did: Strengthen yourself in the Lord your God and then ask God for wisdom.

During service, I worshiped the Lord my God. I declared His goodness and sang of His faithfulness. I strengthen myself in the Lord my God. My situation did not change while I worshipped but my heart change. I left church in a cloud of hope, encouragement, and promise.

I asked God for wisdom and He gave me creative ideas such that when all is said and done I may come out better than before. That’s what he did with David. Not only did David recover all that was stolen from him, he also plundered his enemy. I too, will plunder my enemy.

Are you having a bad day? A bad week? A bad year? Strengthen yourself in the Lord your God and seek His wisdom. He will not disappoint.

“David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.

and David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” he answered. “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.””
